Revolutionary Innovation for Manufacturers

Seminar Room 2
Speakers: Bill MacBeth OBE

The Multiplexed Laser Surface Enhancement (MLSE) system is a revolutionary breakthrough which enables fibres and fabrics to be converted for enhanced hydrophilicity, hydrophobicity, fire retardancy and antimicrobial functionalities without the use of harmful chemicals or water.  This radical new technology works with all natural and manmade fibres and has the potential to revolutionise the global textile manufacturing and processing sector.  Removal of chemicals, particularly fluorocarbons from the processing operation offers massive environmental improvements and the introduction of dry processing can reduce energy usage across processes from wool scouring to textile finishing

Three companies share their journeys through the Civil Nuclear Sharing in Growth Improvement Programme. Delegates attending this seminar will find out what sort of improvements are being made by these participating companies, what benefits they are seeing and what this means for the wider nuclear supply chain

James Fisher Nuclear – an established supplier of specialist engineering, manufacturing and technical services for high-integrity applications. Based in Leyland, Lancashire, James Fisher Nuclear designs, produces and tests components for the nuclear fuels, operations, decommissioning and new build markets.

Metalcraft – a leading designer and manufacturer of pressure vessels, tanks and other systems for the energy and metal sectors. Based in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, Metalcraft manufactures vessels, tanks and heat exchangers for nuclear clients including Sellafield and Rolls-Royce.

NIS Ltd – a specialist integrated engineering company, providing bespoke design and manufacture of plant and equipment for a wide range of markets. Based in Chorley, Lancashire, NIS has over 25 years’ experience in nuclear, including automation, mechanical handling equipment, waste treatment systems and fuel transport.

The Civil Nuclear Sharing in Growth programme (CNSIG) aims to develop the UK manufacturing supply chain for civil nuclear – in new build, operations and decommissioning – and help UK companies win work in the nuclear industry at home and overseas. CNSIG is part-funded by government through the Regional Growth Fund and supported by industry leaders including Rolls-Royce. Hearing from the horse's mouth the changes that the businesses have already seen - taking cost out of the business, helping win major contracts and introducing new quality standards.

Participating companies receive a four-year programme of business development and training worth £1 million, tailored to the specific needs of their business.

Funding Technology in Manufacturing

static1.squarespace.png
static1.squarespace.jpg

We are at the beginning of a massive change in how we do manufacturing. More and more opportunities are opening up for network factories; new technologies are advancing at a staggering rate; full turn-key solutions are on the increase. This makes a more complicated and sophisticated product to fund rather than the traditionally financed deal such as a single machine tool.

At the same time, funding is becoming more complicated; we now have crowd funding and peer to peer funding alongside numerous products constantly being produced by the financial market.

Paul O'Donnell, Head of External Relations at MTA London facilitates a diverse panel of experts to look at where the medium sized Yorkshire manufacturer fits into this. What needs to change and how can new technologies be funded? In particular, the teccie parts that are not actual machines. A must not miss seminar that promises the most current financial knowledge in Yorkshire.

static1.squarespace-11.png

Delegates attending this seminar are entered into a prize draw for a free iPad Air 64GB. The winner will be announced at the end of the seminar.

The overwhelming fact of the matter when it comes to tech is that although it's advancing fast, connectivity is  an issue to many businesses; coupled with the increasing threat of cyber security this presents challenges.

There are easy ways to boost connectivity that are not widely known and a reliable network means a more secure network overall.

Delegates will learn how to combat the weaknesses of the average manufacturing network - from mobile phones to office computers to shop floor machinery.  Checkpoint, ITogether and Bluecoat give valuable advice and insight in this half hour seminar jam packed full of hints, tips and simple actions that you can take straight back and implement in your workplace to ensure that your network is fully optimised.

Breaking Through for the Ambitious Manufacturer

Seminar Room 3

We all know business is about connections. Introductions are gold dust. Santander's Breakthrough Programme for manufacturers is revolutionary.  It's really simple because it's all about connections. Connections to British business legends, the best talent, international contacts to name a few. The best part is, it's free.

It's relatively easy for the learned sales person to stand up and talk about what they do. That's not going to happen in this seminar. Who will be speaking are ambitious manufacturers and their journey. Straight from the horses mouth.

The Mysterious World of Commercial Agents

Seminar Room 3
Speakers: Richard Parr

There’s probably little anyone can teach you about your manufacturing process.  But how do you reach your customers? A mobile sales force can be expensive to run and time-consuming to manage. Would you benefit from self-employed sales personnel – in other words, ‘commercial agents’?  But what (or who) is a commercial agent?  What are the implications of appointing a commercial agent?

Most business owners have a pretty good grasp of employment law – but the same probably cannot be said of the law relating to commercial agents.  What contrasts can be drawn between commercial agents, on the one hand, and employees (and ‘workers’) on the other hand? What’s the right choice for your business – commercial agency or employment?

Supply Chain F&D;

static1.squarespace-13.png
static1.squarespace-14.png

There have been rumbles over supply chain management in the food & drink sector over the past year and it's not rumbles in the belly.

Changes are afoot in the supply chain of major supermarkets, affected largely by the market share being gained by discount stores. So how does this affect the supplier? What opportunities are out there and exactly what changes are in store?

This panel discussion brings together retailers and manufacturers which will open out these issues to the audience for participation.

Truly Ethical, Sustainable Food

Seminar Room 3
Speakers: Adrian Matthews

At the moment most of our high value foods are imported. By adopting circular models, we can grow it ourselves and cut out the transport; creating jobs and improving our financial sustainability.

Adrian shows delegates how to move from a "linear" business model towards a "circular" business model - reusing waste which is turned into energy with the bi-product of the process becoming organic fertiliser. Delegates will learn how to:

  • improve resource efficiency
  • improve carbon footprint
  • improve waste management

This seminar is relevant for food & drink manufacturers/producers, retailers, restaurants - interested in truly ethical, sustainable food.
